The last quarter of this year has brought a flurry of full day coaching sessions booked, and I am so excited as each one of them happens! These full day sessions give me and a photographer over 7 hours of truly digging into their business, every part of it, to find where they can grow and make the most impact, and they are just amazing. These are also the coaching sessions I offer where photographers are given the opportunity to photograph alongside me on a session type of their choice, and as a photographer, this is maybe my favorite part of them. I haven’t ever seen another photographer offer that before and it is something I know I would have loved when I was growing (and still now!)– I think you learn so much by watching someone else in action. It allows these photographers to not only experience how I pose in their own headshots, but even more so to see how I work with a client– posing, lighting, expression, the list goes on. We get to go through every decision I make and why, and I think it can make a huge difference in their shooting while the time working through their business questions in my office makes a huge difference in their business! We often focus on marketing, social media use, client communication and care, and website building and it is so fun to watch these photographer’s businesses transform after we meet (and of course after they put in the hard work)!
Megan is a photographer who has just recently launched her business and I know is going to be taking the local market by storm in just a matter of time! She has a great handle on using her camera, and is just starting to really get all the pieces of her business in place. She is creative and kind, and definitely has a huge passion for the artistic part of photography! And perhaps my favorite part– she is so good with people! Even after clearly expressing some nerves about being the “point person” for the session we shot together (which is one of the options I give my students– if they want to take over posing for a portion of it!), she jumped right in to help get some of the family members engaged and smiling, and was so extremely personable with them. Those are qualities that I do not believe can be taught– you either have them or you don’t. And Megan does! So that was very exciting to see, and I know will help take her very far!
The hours that I spend coaching each month (2 sessions a month) are truly 6 of my favorite hours of work. I love taking what I learned from all those years of teaching and putting it into helping propel others forward- with goals and a plan in place! It feels like the perfect marriage of 2 things I love so equally. I am booking into early spring now for coaching sessions, and would love to chat with you if you are a photographer or small business owner wondering what your next step is to growing your business! There is a lot more information about the coaching and workshop sides of my business on the new education page.
