PERSONAL | HEART TO HEART

Can I share a bit of my heart here today? Friday isn’t a day I usually blog, but if you have been following me for any time at all, you know that I typically blog about 4 days a week, and have kept up that pace for almost 2 years.  It is a huge priority in my business because it is my #1 marketing system (for free!), and because I love it. I love writing and I always have, but much more so, I love sharing the love stories of the people that I get the pleasure of photographing. I love educating through the blog, and teaching photographers and small business owners the tips and tricks I have learned over the years that took me so much digging to find.  And I love giving advice for brides— because I KNOW how hard wedding planning is! Simply put, I love the blog (and all social media goes along with it, especially Instagram which has really been my favorite platform for the last 2 years!).

But here is the heart part. I am in a season of life right now where I even though my dreams are running full steam ahead (crazily full) at all hours of the day, I feel like my life is asking me to slow down a bit. My oldest will start full day school in the fall and for the first time since he was born I won’t get to spend daytime with him. We are headed into summers, and while I wouldn’t trade the schedule and flexibility of owning my own business for my school schedule ever, one of the greatest benefits of my first career as a teacher was knowing that the summers were 100% all for my kids.  We just have some factors going on right now that make me want to invest a little extra time there and a little less time on the extras of this job.  Not the shooting and teaching– I am not sure those will ever change. But I think my social media presence might pull back just a little going into the next few weeks to make room for this season.  It is really hard for me because I don’t really do 80% or 50%…it isn’t in my vocabulary. But I feel a little burn out with a constantly curated instagram feed and developing so much new content ever week between the blog and newsletters, so I am going to try and try to give myself a little grace for the next few weeks and just take a little room to breathe.

If you have been through a season like this, I would love to hear from you about getting through to the other side. It is the first real feeling of needing a little break that I didn’t have a time limit on (like to get through musical/etc) and I am curious about moving through it. I also want to assure you that nothing big is changing here- I will still blog each week so please don’t give up on me! 🙂 I am just going to give myself a little more space through it all for a while. And if you want to keep up, I am still moving full steam ahead in newsletter land– so much fun content is going out there- click to sign up and stay involved there!  Thanks so much for being along for the journey and all the hills and valleys! I feel like I am chugging up a bit hill right now, but I have been around enough to know that pushing through to what comes next is so worth it.

I'm Jill, a wedding and portrait photographer based out of Chicago and Central Illinois, and available world wide! I'm also a photography educator, wife to my favorite person on the planet, mama to 3 amazing kids and an energetic Aussie, and obsessed with statement jewelry and all desserts (especially fruit pies!).

As a past high school teacher, I have a major heart for education. After going full time in my business, I have built a business I love that gives me an almost 6 figure salary and allows me to be home part time with my kids.  I dream for you to run a business that enhances your life and lights you up, and I believe I can help you learn how to do it with a little hustle and a lot of heart!

Hello Friend!

Are you a Photographer?

Are you a mom/hobbyist?

Start HERE!

You're in the right place!  As a past high school teacher, educating others is my life's work and a HUGE part of my business!  I have been teaching moms and hobbyists how to use their camera from first purchasing it all the way to coaching them into businesses of their own, and I'd love to help you as well, wherever you are (and whatever camera you have!).

I'm so glad you are here!  Teaching Photographers and other small business owners how to run more joyful, successful, and profitable businesses is one of my favorite parts of my business!  I specialize in working with photographers to make their goals a reality (or figure out what their goals should be in the first place!).
