I'm Jill, and I'm thrilled that you have asked me about the JGP Newborn Experience! I adore telling the stories of the people I get to work with through images!
On the left is my husband of 11 years, Michael (he is also my best friend, second shooter for weddings, and our personal chef!), and my 3 kids-- our "3 Es" as we call them, each with a name that starts with E! They are 9, 7, and 4 and growing and changing every day.
That far-too-tall-for-my-liking boy in the front? He is the reason this all began for me!
I spent a year long maternity leave teaching myself how to use my camera and practicing non-stop. I fell in love with capturing his little pudgy toddler fingers, his new expressions, and his hair that never sat down straight... and this turned into a deep love of doing the same thing for others!
It all just goes way too fast.

Location: While I can offer your newborn session to be completed in a studio setting, I love coming to your house so that you don’t have to travel with a new baby, can be comfortable in your own environment, and can have your new most precious memories captured in a place that means a lot to you! I love using items from your home; blankets, baskets, furniture, backgrounds that you have chosen to represent your family in your house. I think they make your images so much more personal and meaningful! All I need is one room with nice natural light and we can make it work!
My Style: I adore a few posed images of your new baby alone, laying on blankets with hats and bows--they are timeless and sweet, and I will ensure that you get a couple of these! But what I really love as a photographer are lifestyle images, where I am capturing your new baby and family (including pets!) cuddling and getting to know each other. Preparation: Upon booking, I send my clients a customized PDF to help you prep for your session with lots of details on what to expect, how the session will go, and what to wear and put your baby in! These sessions are created for families looking for either a more simple, short, easy newborn session option OR a smaller investment that allows them to choose what they want to spend.
Location: These sessions are completed on weekdays during the day at the JGP natural light photography studio in Petersburg, IL
My Style: These sessions will be highly baby- led. That means I will follow the lead of your baby and focus mostly on photos of them on their own in a favorite onesie or wrap (I can provide some options for you as well!), and we will photograph your baby as they are! If they want to sleep, that's great, or if they are more awake that is ok too. These sessions can include a few images with mom, dad, and/or siblings as well but we will mostly focus on baby if baby is happy being put down. Note: These sessions must include 1 or both parents because with a smaller time frame often, baby might be happiest being held.

If you choose me to document your family's story, here is what to expect!

After we settle on the details of your session, we will book you through an easy online system that takes care of everything we need, including a deposit, and then the fun begins! We will start planning and talking through all the details! I recommend booking 2-5 months ahead of your due date, but don't hesitate to reach out closer to and see if I can fit you in!

Next, you will be sent my custom Jill Gum Newborn Guide pdf with everything you need to know about your session. It will walk you through choosing outfits, accessorizing, how to prep your family for your session, what to have ready, etc. I will check in with you 1 week before your due date to finalize details, and just have you add me to your "baby is here!" contact list so I can clear my calendar for you to do baby's session in first 5-10 days after birth.
Note: if baby is born premature or we need to delay a bit for other reasons-- that is ok!

Your session will be fun, easy, and stress free (though as a mama myself, I know that last part is hard to believe!) in the comfort of your home! I will walk you through posing and interacting, but definitely love to capture the natural engagement between you and your loved ones. You won't even feel like you are "modeling"--it will just be a fun evening together!

Your finished gallery will be sent to you in a beautiful online format within 4 weeks of your session. The online gallery will allow you to download, share, and print (if you want to!) the edited high-resolution files from your session. And those files are yours--your memories, yours to do what you wish with them. Your gallery will be live for 1 month, and you can access it from your phone as well! You also get a print credit to help you get your images in your hands and home.

If you choose to include a Legacy Album in your portrait experience, I will begin the album design process shortly after you receive your digital gallery. I will start with a custom layout of spreads and images, and you will get to edit each of those until it is perfect. Then we choose cover options and finalize details, and your album will ship to you about a month later.

A: I strive to create a highly interactive yet calm environment where you can all be yourself and enjoy your time together, and I can capture the moments. I aim for it to feel more like quality time together rather than constant never ending instructions, but also keep things very guided so you know what to do!

Q: What should we wear?
A: First: After you book, I will send you a customized guide with lots of details about this questions! In the meantime: often with newborn sessions, soft colors really complement the newness of everything as opposed to super bright or bold patterns. Wear something you are comfortable in with your post-partum body, and have your husband wear something to complement. We can consult on all of this while we plan, including what you what and your newborn will be photographed in!

Q: When and how do I pay?
A: A $200 deposit (that is a part of your total) will be paid when you sign your contract to reserve your date, and the balance can be paid the week of session. All money can be paid by check, paypal, credit card, or cash!

A: Yes please! This is one of my favorite parts of the Baby's First Year sessions-- seeing your family grow together! We can easily grab a few photos of everyone together, siblings together, and also your baby as they grow and change!

A: Absolutely! This is one of the huge benefits of my in-home lifestyle newborn sessions: I can come to you! I know there are areas where only studio newborn photographers can be easily found (I live in one of them!) and would love to help if you are looking for a more unposed, in home style. Q:Will our final images be edited, and how long will it take?
A: I take an approach to editing that corrects for perfect color and exposure. However, I am not a photographer that believes in editing out every blemish and line--I believe in capturing you and your loved ones as you are, not as photoshop can pretend you are! Feel free to ask me for more examples of this. I reserve a 4-week window for image delivery from your session, but usually get them to you sooner!

Q: When do I make the payments for the Baby's First Year Collection?
A: For Baby's First Year, we still do a $200 deposit. Then the remainder is typically split up and paid at the newborn, 8 month, and 12 month sessions. I can work with you on a different payment plan if this is not ideal for you-- just reach out!

A: Absolutely! As long as you let me know within a couple weeks of your baby's newborn session, I can (and would love to!) find time in my schedule to add you in for the year! I will still apply the same discounted pricing as well.

Q: When does the newborn session get scheduled?
A: I ask my clients to keep me in the loop if their doc gives any indication of baby's arrival time, and then put me on the hospital contact list. Usually we try to schedule within 10 days of baby's due date. I photograph newborn sessions on weekday mornings or early afternoons unless a parent has no leave time from work. If there are school aged siblings involved, I ask parents to pull them for the first hour or so- full family photos only take about half an hour total, and then they can be brought to school!
