Q: What is a session with Jill Gum Photography like?
A: I strive to create a highly interactive yet calm environment where you can all be yourself and enjoy your time together, and I can capture the moments. I aim for it to feel more like quality time together rather than constant never ending instructions, but also keep things very guided so you know what to do!
Q: What should we wear?
A: First: After you book, I will send you a customized guide with lots of details about this questions! In the meantime: often with newborn sessions, soft colors really complement the newness of everything as opposed to super bright or bold patterns. Wear something you are comfortable in with your post-partum body, and have your husband wear something to complement. We can consult on all of this while we plan, including what you what and your newborn will be photographed in!
Q: When and how do I pay?
A: A $200 deposit (that is a part of your total) will be paid when you sign your contract to reserve your date, and the balance can be paid the week of session. All money can be paid by check, paypal, credit card, or cash!
Q: Can other family members be included in the milestone sessions for Baby's First Year?
A: Yes please! This is one of my favorite parts of the Baby's First Year sessions-- seeing your family grow together! We can easily grab a few photos of everyone together, siblings together, and also your baby as they grow and change!
Q:Would you be willing to travel for newborn sessions?
A: Absolutely! This is one of the huge benefits of my in-home lifestyle newborn sessions: I can come to you! I know there are areas where only studio newborn photographers can be easily found (I live in one of them!) and would love to help if you are looking for a more unposed, in home style. Please reach out to me via email or the contact page and I can make a custom quote for you including travel.
Q:Will our final images be edited, and how long will it take?
A: I take an approach to editing that corrects for perfect color and exposure. However, I am not a photographer that believes in editing out every blemish and line--I believe in capturing you and your loved ones as you are, not as photoshop can pretend you are! Feel free to ask me for more examples of this. I reserve a 4-week window for image delivery from your session, but usually get them to you sooner!
Q: When do I make the payments for the Baby's First Year Collection?
A: For Baby's First Year, we still do a $200 deposit. Then the remainder is typically split up and paid at the newborn, 8 month, and 12 month sessions. I can work with you on a different payment plan if this is not ideal for you-- just reach out!
Q: When should I book my newborn session?
A: I recommend booking 3-4 months ahead of your due date. But if you forget or don't think you want a session until you have your baby, please reach out to me! I think every family who wants newborn photos should get to have them, and will do my best to fit you into my schedule even last minute!!
Q: Can I book just a newborn session now and decide afterwards if I want to add on the Baby's First Year Plan?
A: Absolutely! As long as you let me know within a couple weeks of your baby's newborn session, I can (and would love to!) find time in my schedule to add you in for the year! I will still apply the same discounted pricing as well.
Q: When does the newborn session get scheduled?
A: I ask my clients to keep me in the loop if their doc gives any indication of baby's arrival time, and then put me on the hospital contact list. Usually we try to schedule within 10 days of baby's due date. I photograph newborn sessions on weekday mornings or early afternoons unless a parent has no leave time from work. If there are school aged siblings involved, I ask parents to pull them for the first hour or so- full family photos only take about half an hour total, and then they can be brought to school!
Q: Is there a discount for returning clients?
