Moving to the farm: A City girl with a Country Heart | Personal

My husband says we didn’t move to the farm.  I disagree. This is one of those posts that could go in the series I just began about Trusting God…but there are too many stories to tell here for it to belong elsewhere. But I could start the same: “If you had told me 10 years ago that I would move to the country, I never would have believed you.”.  It is another way that my path has so clearly been orchestrated from elsewhere.

Because, you see, I grew up in the Chicago suburbs and only ever knew city.  People, traffic, busy, and rushed.  And while I can admit that I didn’t always love all of that, I certainly adjusted to it over the years, and never expected anything different. My husband, on the other hand, grew up on a farm.  A beautiful, stunning farm that included his family, his grandparents, and his other grandparents down the road a ways. And he adored the farm- but when I met him, he too had lived in city for the past 10 years of his life.  And we never planned anything different- it really wasn’t even discussed as we bought our first house.

One year ago, we moved to the farm.  Ok Michael, the country…I agree, isn’t technically on your family’s farm!  And to put it simply, until we moved out here…

I never knew I couldn’t breathe until I realized what it felt like to breathe.

The space, the land, the quiet…it has been completely life giving for me.  We are technically in a small farm town and I find myself loving so many aspects of living in a smaller town like this, while being very close to a big city still.  In this “Moving to the Farm” story, I am going to focus mostly on the farm and on all of the fun experiences we are having as a part of that life (and friends, let me tell you, learning about farm equipment from my 3 year old boy who knows more than me is quite humbling).  But I will also share a bit about how it is changing and adjusting my heart.  And my family.   This is just the beginning…and I’m so excited to watch this chapter of our lives unfold! Next up in a few days will be the “why” we got here!
