Wedding Wednesday: First look with Dad | Springfield Wedding Photography

It is certainly no secret to any of my JG Brides (or friends at large!) that I adore first looks…but I am saving that whole spiel for another day…this post is for the daddy’s girls, like myself!  For many father-daughter relationships, the wedding day is a HUGE deal.  My dad and I had talked about, joked about, and dreamed about my wedding day for as long as I can remember, and I have so many strong memories associated to those discussions.  My daddy is a pretty sentimental man, which adds so much emotion to those memories.  My first memory about these moments was when the song “Butterfly Kisses” came out (YES so cheesy…YES so good!) and he sang it to me in the car one day.  He may have shed a tear or two, and told me that he could not wait to dance with me at my wedding to that song one day. Years passed (and we chose the slightly less cheesy but super meaningful to us “Lullabye” by Billy Joel for our first dance!)— but as special as the day was for my Michael and I, it was very special for my daddy and me too.  That was a longer start than I pictured to what I thought was a short and sweet blog post…so I will get to the point!

Many brides now are opting to have a special moment, a “first look” if you will, with their dads after they are all ready.  It feels a little more momentous than just randomly seeing dad when you turn a corner in the house or when he walks in the room.  This moment isn’t something I knew about or planned with my daddy…and I wish I would have.   All it takes is an extra minute or 2, and a little plan- bride goes to a planned out spot once ready, daddy specifically comes in for the point of seeing his daughter looking as beautiful as she ever has before he gives her away, and they are allowed a moment together without a ton people watching or talking or busyness.  Last season allowed me for one of these sweet moments, and I hope there are many more to come!  A very small addition to your day, with momentous impact and sweetness!  To someone else, these images may mean little…but to these 2, they represent a beautiful memory of a small addition to her day!  JG Brides, let me know if you want this–and for everyone else, don’t be afraid to mention this to your photographer, and plan it with your dad!

I maintain that Girlie will not be allowed to get married – I’d be too much of a mess to make it through her wedding day! Probably Buggie’s, too…!
