When I first started planning my first workshop, a beyond-the-basics class for camera enthusiasts (read the recap here!), I planned right away to have 2 different subjects to photograph- one a young adult/older teen to practice some homecoming dance type posing with (for all those moms with older kids who want super fun pictures all dressed up!), and a younger child to practice story telling while photographing. I called up a sweet friend and asked if her two beautiful daughters would be up for modeling, and had grand plans of bubbles, sidewalk chalk, and glitter blowing outside, giving the attendees and me a ton of space to practice photographing them, and time for me to work with each person a bit.
And then the forecast a week before said rain, ALL WEEK. But- as each day came- the rain did not. And I was so hopeful! However, the day before, there was a big system building up that wasn’t only predicting rain during, but also an inch or more before hand, and I knew we needed a backup plan. So I went into super quick planning mode (of a concept I had in mind for a while) to do a mini-styled shoot with the girls! I shopped and re-planned and decorated, and the baking shoot was born! It wasn’t ideal, and definitely not ideal for teaching because there wasn’t the room or flexibility I would have liked- but it was adorable! And their cookies were delicious! 🙂
All of these details were purchased from the Target dollar section, Hobby Lobby, or found in our house already!
No photo shoot is complete without a little glitter!Aren’t these girls just the cutest?!The attendees learned about shooting the details……capturing the moments……and setting the scene to give context!Different perspectives tell a better story! We did a little reading too just for fun- these girls clearly adore each other- I hope for this closeness in my kids as they grow!
So grateful to these two adorable models, and to my sweet friend for letting them join us! And of course, to my attendees, who made the day so amazing! I can’t believe it was over a week ago already- and can’t wait for round two in July! Details coming soon, but email me at jill@jillgumphotography.com if you want to be the first to hear about it!!
