MY 6 FAVORITE TV SHOWS On my Netflix obsession | Personal

In light of reading lots on social media about show # 2 on this list and it’s soon to be revival (can’t WAIT!), I am going to share some TV favorites!  I admit, Michael and I love TV.  I am a total sucker for reality shows (love So You Think You Can Dance and all the Bachelor/ette/idise shoes the best!!!), and there are a few shows that come in and out of our view (some shared and some not).  But these are 5 all-time favorites, including our most recent obsession…

1). The Newsroom (on amazon prime). This is Michael’s and my newest find and total obsession at this point!  It is a political drama made by HBO, and before I turn some of you completely away, I should assure you that I am not a highly political person, or always super up to date on the news (honestly, sometimes, it just depresses me too much).  It is about so much more than either of those things, and we absolutely love it!  Some of it is definitely over my head (it follows a news team through a few years of their newscasting, but highlights the relationships between them!), but it hits all the feels (and laughter!). It is a must-check-out! Make sure you give it 1 full episode- I think you will be hooked by the end.

2). Gilmore Girls (on netflix). #Typical, I know.  Truth time? I watched the series for the first time last year. As a girl who was in late hs/college when this aired (I think?), I am SHOCKED by this. I must have been to busy watching something else at that point. Michael and I watched it all last year, and loved it.  Honestly? I saw a few episodes here and there when I was younger, but as much as I liked Rory (the daughter), I never got attached to her.  However, coming back as a mother and resonating with Lorelei?  That got me attached in 2 minutes flat.  It is really weird when you realize that you start identifying with the parents instead of the kids in TV shows… You have ONE month to watch the whole thing before the new season…9 years later…is released!

3). Grey’s Anatomy (on netflix). I have watched the whole (12 seasons!) series a couple more times than I should admit (Michael reminds me though–he doesn’t like this one!) and while there have been multiple parts of seasons that I haven’t really liked, and plenty of character departures that have broken my heart a bit, I still love it. And the music? Amazing!  Find it on Netflix!

4). LOST (on netflix). I believe this will ALWAYS be my end all favorite show. I caught on in the second season with a wonderful group of college friends, and we were obsessed. I got quite a few friends attached (including Michael) after college, and was heartbroken when it ended (a bit controversially) a couple years ago.  It is another show that I didn’t think everything went right on- but I love it anyways!!!

5). Parenthood (on netflix).  There were many things about this show that made me batty (everyone talking over everyone else in most of the episodes being the main thing). But I loved the family stories and connections, and dream of having all my kids and grandkids eating at a big farm table in my backyard with string lights some day.  It just tells a beautiful story about the complications of loving each other…and it was so real. I love it!

And my definite second favorite to LOST…

6). How I Met Your Mother (on netflix). You must run to watch it, right now! This was such a fun one for Michael and I to watch together because it is just an EASY show- not that there isn’t a lot of emotion and complex story lines, because there are, but it is a comedy and doesn’t carry either the plane crash or medical drama of some of the other favorites on this list, making it just mostly feel good all the time. The characters are so lovable, and there are occasional music numbers for various reasons that crack me up. And lastly, the name of #michaelsbrobib came from this show- so who doesn’t love that?!

Can I give an honorable mention? This is for Michael! His favorite show (of all time?) is Monk. It took me a while to get into it, but I loved it in the end. It tells the story of a slightly neurotic private detective (which reminds me of Veronica Mars-another old favorite!) who is solving other people’s mysteries while his own life story is told- it is a great comedic show with a lot of heart.  Definitely a good one to check out!

  1. Would you believe that I haven’t watch ANY of these shows??? I’m a total Netflix binger, too. I think I have a few new shows I’m going to check out!!

    • Jill says:

Ohhh girl! If you are short on time, something like HIMYM with short episodes is a good starter. But otherwise, it just depends on genre…they are all just so good!

  2. Well you know me, I LOVE Gilmore Girls too!!! Lost and HIMYM were also amazing!

  3. Angie says:

GIRL!! How in the heck do you get to watch TV?!?!? I’m lucky if I catch the news once a week 🙂 I’m totally jealous!!

    • Jill says:

🙂 We have EARLY bed times for the kids (and wake times, but they don’t seem adjustable!), and prioritize quite non work time together a couple times a week- BUT some of these shows were watched in college 10 years ago and not since! 🙂 So that helped with the spare time for sure!

  4. Emily says:

LOVE every singly one of those shows! except, haven’t seen The News Room, I’ll certainly check it out! You just have two shows missing! Friends and The Office 🙂 <3 THEN your list is complete 😉

  5. Sara O'Hara says:

Literally ALL of these except #1 are on my favorites list too!! Love it!
