ASK ANYTHING: EDITING RING SHOTS Is it still a video blog if you only see my screen share??!

Rings

I‘m really excited about todays video blog (vlog, right?!), mostly because I did not appear in it! Ha! I am not sure if that really makes it count as a vlog, but it is a blog with a video in it, so I’m going to run with it! Today I am sharing about how I edit ring shots. I mention this in the video, but this is an area of my business that I have improved a lot in during the past year, so I wanted to share what those changes are and how they have impacted my work! I work with 2 different ring shot from the same wedding here, and I think you can really see the difference in the images. Both have some color cast going on, and that is really important to take out to make sure you are giving your clients beautiful images of this most prized piece of jewelry and symbol of their commitment!  I love photographing the rings and details, and these tips can apply to them all! Do you have any extra tips to add? Leave them in the comments, and share with a friend you think could benefit from this!

These are some of my favorite ring shots from the last season, putting this editing technique into practice! There is a little ring shot bonus tip at the bottom! 🙂

Bonus tip: Shoot your rings with a higher aperture!  I typically shot them at 2.8 my first couple years because I typically shoot pretty wide open, and already had to change my ISO quite high to keep a high enough shutter speed for motion blur (over 1/250 with my macro!) and that made me nervous! But I have learned that with the huge amount of compression my macro lens gives me, I lose even more of the detail than I want at 2.8…so I have been learning to shoot closer to 4.5 if I can, and just making sure I am in a really light area and my image is properly exposed makes the grain from a higher ISO easy to deal with in post processing if I have to!  If you are used to shooting your macro shots wide open, try it! It was a game changer for me!
