ASK ANYTHING | Bridal Details Matter & Why They Matter Guest Post by Marquette LaRee

I have LOVED the freedom in my schedule that I get as a small business owner–especially as a mother of (now!) three (the introduction of our newest is coming soon!)!! However, when planning for my maternity leave I knew I wanted to continue serving my clients and providing as much education as I could on my blog all while enjoying my sweet newborn.  So, in addition to pre-prepping 6 weeks of blog content for you before I went on maternity leave, I reached out to some AMAZING photographers and asked if they would be willing to guest blog for me.  I am so beyond grateful for these wonderful creatives and I cannot wait to share their content with you!! To kick off our guest series, Marquette LaRee is a photographer based out of Arizona and is sharing about such an important topic for brides : Bridal details and why they are so important for your day!! You can find Marquette at: Website, Blog, Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest. Thank you for sharing, Marquette!! I SO appreciate it– here she is!!

I totally get it. You’re looking for ways to cut back on the wedding budget and you don’t want to pay for anything more than you really need to. So do you really need a photographer to come and take pictures of all the bridal details? I had a wedding party member once comment that “It’s not like they’re going to be printing those and hanging them on their wall.” No, not likely. So why do bridal details even matter?

I’ll tell you with a story! Because I LOVE stories!

Once there was a girl named Goldilocks. She got lost. Then she found a house and went in. Next she ate porridge. Later the bears came home, and Goldilocks was scared. She escaped and ran home.

Boring. What makes a good story? The details!

Not only did Goldilocks eat porridge, she ate porridge that was too hot, porridge that was too cold, and then finally she ate porridge that was just right. Not only was it just the right temperature, it was perfectly creamy, with just a little steam coming off as she took a bite in the cold house. It had the most decadent chocolate sauce drizzled over the top, dusted with perfectly toasted coconut flakes. It warmed her soul as she ate it and remembered visiting Grandma, who would make this exact same pudding.

See, isn’t that better?! What makes it better? The details!  Now let’s apply this to weddings!

1. There will be people who desperately want to be at your wedding, but can’t for some reason. Perhaps their due date is that same week. Or perhaps they can’t fly down from Alaksa. Perhaps work just won’t give them the time off. They are going to be waiting for the photos to roll out to see how your day went because they will have been dying a little inside on your wedding day that they weren’t there. Being able to see more than just the bride and groom portraits lets them into the day. Your details are pieces of the big story of your wedding day, and those pieces are what grip the viewers! I’ve had family members who weren’t able to attend the wedding day tell me later that going through the photos I took made them feel like they were right there and that they were able to see each part of the story.

2. As much as we’d all love to say that we’ll remember every detail of our wedding day forever, the memories don’t always stay filed right where we want them to in our brains as the years go by. Years after your wedding, seeing a photo of your shoes can trigger the memory of you and your best friend out shopping together, getting lunch, and going to store after store to find the perfect shoe. You’re not just preserving the memory of what you wore, you’re preserving the memory of the entire planning process!

3. You have (or will!) put hours in combing the internet, visiting stores, and gathering supplies for your details. I spent all day with my friend looking just for a necklace and pair of shoes that were just right! You’ve put a lot of time and thought into each detail! The perfect necklace to compliment the neckline and details on your dress. The earrings that Grandma left to your mom. Or even the perfume you bought after sampling every bottle in the mall so that you’d have a signature wedding perfume. If you’ve put that much time and detail into something, I think it matters!

4. When I have the chance to photograph details, it helps me warm up creatively! Just like a choir needs to warm up before a concert and a runner needs to stretch before a marathon, photographers perform better if they have a chance to get their creative juices flowing! And this gives me a great chance to really internalize your details and the meaning behind them so that I can be on the lookout for the day for coordinating details and emotions!

5. Because they are just pretty! If you decide to have an album made, your detail shots help to fill out the album and add so much artistry to the pages!

So I don’t know about you…but I’m all for details! And so is Goldilocks. For years she’s been doomed to eating just regular porridge, waiting for someone to go into detail and give her story some porridge details worth reading about! Details matter!
