As I shared a few months ago here, I have intentionally taken quite a break from the social media pace (both in blogging and sharing on facebook and instagram) that I was running the past few months. In that post, I mentioned that while I felt like my heart was charging full steam ahead in JGP, full of ideas and dreams, my life was asking me to slow down a bit for summer, and that is absolutely true. I have worked less this summer than either of the last 2 (even though we are also traveling for weddings and sessions way more, making it feel equally busy!) in an attempt to really get to enjoy summer and enjoy my kids during this season. I’m not really a summer girl (hot weather…no thanks!), but I can tell from this particular summer that it will always be my favorite season from now on because my kids are home…and in a little over a month, one of them will be at school during the day instead. That will be a huge change for us since I have been home with them in one way or another since they were born and haven’t done regular full days apart. So we are relishing the time we have, but with that comes a lighter schedule for social media. I am working hard to always keep improving my client care, and making sure my brides and grooms and portrait clients know and feel their worth in my eyes by my attention to them and my speed with their galleries. So that means other areas of my business have to pause a bit.
The other reason is that pregnancy is hard! I haven’t felt the best throughout and have been super zapped of energy…so I am saving the energy I do regularly have for serving those clients the best I can in this season…and enjoying my family! It has been really a tough adjustment for me because it is quite out of character for my usual hustle and pace…
But I am truly very thankful for it. This season is teaching me to slow down and enjoy a little bit more, something I have always struggled with as a major dreamer (always looking towards what comes next). I am hoping that even if the pace picks back up (or changes a bit, which is what we are really anticipating) through this next season of life, that I can keep some of the calm of this season in me. The part that says it’s ok if I only blog clients for a few weeks, miss a week in the newsletter, or do (gasp!) skip a few days on Instagram. The part that promises that if we intentionally stop booking weddings now for 2018, even though we are barely half way through 2017, my business and family will be much better for it. The part that says by business has been stable enough for long enough at this point that it can run without me working every day in all the down moments– and sometimes just enjoying an extra hour at the end of the work day by stopping early with my kids.
And that, my friends, is where I am headed now. Hang tight on the ride and keep coming back to check for new content– I promise, it’s coming! It’s just coming from a slightly more balanced mama who is fully enjoying her summer too!

You're in the right place! As a past high school teacher, educating others is my life's work and a HUGE part of my business! I have been teaching moms and hobbyists how to use their camera from first purchasing it all the way to coaching them into businesses of their own, and I'd love to help you as well, wherever you are (and whatever camera you have!).
I'm so glad you are here! Teaching Photographers and other small business owners how to run more joyful, successful, and profitable businesses is one of my favorite parts of my business! I specialize in working with photographers to make their goals a reality (or figure out what their goals should be in the first place!).
Yeah for you Jill! Nothing more important than you and your family! Takes wise parents to be present with their family! Blessings as you expand your family, enjoy this season! God is good!
